Associate Principal's Message

Greetings Bay Park Community,

I am thrilled to join Bay Park Elementary and the Clairemont Cluster as your new Associate Principal for the 2023-2024 school year! I am shared between Bay Park Elementary and Curie Elementary. This means that I am at Bay Park on Thursdays, Fridays, and every other Wednesday. I am passionate about providing our students the most engaging learning experiences possible to help ensure student success and working with you to achieve these goals.

I am a graduate of San Diego State University with a B.A. in Liberal Studies and an emphasis in English. I then attended National University where I received my CA Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Supplemental in English. From National, I also received my M.A. in Multicultural Teaching Distinctions. I began my teaching career in 2006 teaching at Porter Elementary. From there, I have also taught at Johnson Elementary: A STEAM Magnet and NASA Explorer School, Rosa Parks Elementary and their School in the Parks Program, and Birney Elementary: An International Baccalaureate World School Magnet where I worked as a 3rd grade teacher for 8 years. During that time, I began supporting students, staff, and families more outside of my classroom duties and decided to go back to school. I attended San Diego State University and received my CA K-12 Administrative Credential. With this credential, I served Birney as not only a 3rd grade teacher, but as their Admin. Designee in the principal’s absence. During the 2022-2023 school year, I also served as the Interim Administrator for 8 weeks while the principal was out recovering from a knee surgery. During the course of my career, I have taught Preschool-4th grade, and have spent the majority of my time in 3rd grade.

Having spent my career immersed in elementary school, I am knowledgeable about how the standards build with complexity from year to year and what expectations need to be in place to ensure success for all of our learners. I am passionate about providing our students with engaging learning experiences that will not only create a love of learning, but will foster a desire to be a life-long learner as well. With my background in the International Baccalaureate Programme of Inquiry, I encourage students to develop a sense of personal agency and advocacy. At the end of the day, I want students to leave school loving to learn, as well as feeling safe, happy, and valued.

I am looking forward to our growing partnership and am excited about this 2023-2024 school year!

Educationally yours,

Ms. Katie Mead
